Transformer is a devices that is used to change the voltage.

Made of 3 main parts

Primary Coil, Secondary Coil & Soft Iron Core

Primary Coil - Inputs the Voltage or Current

Secondary Coil - Output the Voltage or Current

Soft Iron Core - Provides the path for Magnetic Fields lines between Primary coil and Secondary Coil

2 types of Transformer

Step up Transformer -  Increases the voltage

So there will be more no of turns in the secondary coil

Step Down Transformer - Decreases the voltage

So there will be less no of turns in the secondary coil
