Question
How do you use a ruler and a measuring cylinder to measure length and volume?
Answer
A ruler measures length by placing it against the object with one end at the zero mark and reading the scale at eye level to avoid parallax error, to the nearest smallest division. A measuring cylinder measures the volume of a liquid by reading the scale at the bottom of the meniscus at eye level; the volume of an irregular solid can be found by the rise in liquid level when the solid is fully submerged (displacement).
