Effects of forces — Describe
Question
Question
How do force, mass, radius and speed affect an object moving in a circular path?
Answer
(a) With mass and radius constant, increasing the force increases the speed. (b) With mass and speed constant, increasing the force decreases the radius of the circular path. (c) With speed and radius constant, a greater mass requires a greater force to maintain the circular motion. In each case the force acts perpendicular to the direction of motion, toward the centre of the circle.
