What are the ways energy can be transferred between stores, with examples?

Energy is transferred between stores by forces doing mechanical work (e.g. lifting an object transfers energy to the gravitational potential store), by electric currents doing electrical work (e.g. a heater transferring electrical energy to the thermal store), by heating (e.g. thermal energy conducted from a hot object to a cooler one), and by waves, including electromagnetic waves (e.g. light from the Sun) and sound waves (e.g. a loudspeaker transferring energy to the surrounding air).
