Heat Transfer / Conduction
Conduction
Happens in solid
Particles near the heat source gains KE and vibrate more vigorously
These vibrations are passed on the neighboring particles causing it gain the KE
These transfer of vibration goes on. These is how the heat transfer takes place in solid.
Difference between conductor and insulator
But not all solids are good conductor of heat. So what is the difference between conductor and insulator
The differences is Conductors has a lot of free moving electron and insulator don’t have free moving electrons.
Conductors : All metals
Insulators : Plastic, Glass, Rubber, Wood
So in metals conduction happens in 2 ways
1. Through passing on the vibration to the neighboring particles
2. By free moving electrons
