How do surface colour and texture affect the emission, absorption and reflection of infrared radiation?

Dull, black surfaces are good emitters and good absorbers of infrared radiation, and poor reflectors. Shiny, light-coloured (e.g. white or silver) surfaces are poor emitters and poor absorbers of infrared radiation, but good reflectors.
