Electromotive force and potential difference — Describe
Question
Question
How are voltmeters used in a circuit?
Answer
A voltmeter is connected in parallel across the component whose potential difference is to be measured, and it has a very high (near-infinite) resistance so it takes negligible current and does not affect the circuit. Voltmeters may be analogue (pointer and scale) or digital (numerical display), and different ranges are available to allow accurate measurement of different sizes of potential difference.
