Resistance — Describe
Question
Question
Describe an experiment to determine the resistance of a component using a voltmeter and ammeter.
Answer
Connect the component in series with an ammeter and a variable power supply (or rheostat), and connect a voltmeter in parallel across the component. Record the current I from the ammeter and the potential difference V from the voltmeter, then calculate the resistance using R = V / I. Repeating the measurement for several different currents and averaging the calculated resistances improves the accuracy of the result.
