Resistance — Recall
Question
Question
How does the resistance of a metallic conductor depend on (a) its length and (b) its cross-sectional area?
Answer
(a) Resistance is directly proportional to length (R proportional to L) - doubling the length doubles the resistance. (b) Resistance is inversely proportional to cross-sectional area (R proportional to 1/A) - doubling the cross-sectional area halves the resistance.
