The transformer — Describe

Describe the construction of a simple transformer, as used for voltage transformation.

A simple transformer consists of a primary coil and a secondary coil, both made of insulated wire and wound onto a common soft-iron core. The soft-iron core is easily magnetised and demagnetised, and it confines and concentrates the changing magnetic field produced by the primary coil so that it links effectively with the secondary coil.
