What is meant by describing the emission of radiation from a nucleus as spontaneous and random?

Spontaneous means the decay happens on its own and is not affected by external conditions such as temperature, pressure, or chemical bonding, and cannot be triggered or prevented. Random means it is impossible to predict exactly when any particular nucleus will decay, and the radiation emitted travels off in random/all directions.
