Turning effect of forces — Apply
Question
Question
How do you apply the principle of moments when there is more than one force on each side of the pivot?
Answer
For equilibrium, the sum of all clockwise moments about the pivot must equal the sum of all anticlockwise moments; each moment is calculated as force × its perpendicular distance from the pivot, and the moments on each side are added together before the two totals are compared.
