Melting, boiling and evaporation — Explain
Question
Question
Why does an object feel cooler when a liquid evaporates from its surface?
Answer
During evaporation, the most energetic particles escape from the liquid, leaving behind particles with lower average kinetic energy, so the temperature of the remaining liquid falls. Since the liquid is in contact with the object, heat then flows from the object to the cooler liquid, cooling the object.
