Melting, boiling and evaporation — Describe
Question
Question
How do temperature, surface area and air movement affect the rate of evaporation?
Answer
Increasing the temperature increases the rate of evaporation, as more particles gain enough energy to escape. Increasing the surface area increases the rate, as more particles are located at the surface where escape can occur. Increasing air movement over the surface increases the rate, by carrying away escaped vapour particles and preventing them from returning to the liquid.
