Melting, boiling and evaporation — Describe
Question
Question
What happens to the particles of a substance during condensation and during solidification?
Answer
Condensation: as a gas cools, its particles lose kinetic energy and slow down until they move close enough for attractive forces to pull them into the disordered, close arrangement of a liquid. Solidification (freezing): as a liquid cools further, particles lose more kinetic energy until attractive forces lock them into the fixed, ordered arrangement of a solid.
