Electric charge — Explain

Question
Question

Explain, in terms of electrons, what happens when an object is charged by friction.

Answer

When two insulators are rubbed together, only electrons (negative charge) are transferred from one surface to the other - no protons move. The object that gains electrons becomes negatively charged, while the object that loses electrons becomes positively charged, with an equal and opposite amount of charge on each.
